the route
Approximate route map.
All stops and passages depend on the wind and weather, and are subject to change. The route is flexible! We will sleep on the yacht in cabins (2 persons per cabin). We will have a yacht-kitchen to prepare breakfast. Dinners in cafes on shore or DIY in the yacht-kitchen.
Day 1
Not later than 3 PM we need to be in Fethiye Marina ready to sail. It is better to arrive at Fethiye the night before, on October 25th. There are many small cozy hotels in the city. The optimal airport of arrival is Dalaman, connection through Istanbul. There is a regular shuttle bus going from the airport to Fethiye (travel time about 1 hour, one way 4 euros).
Meeting with the group and captain. Departure of the yacht is scheduled for 4 PM. The first passage (15 nautical miles) is to Hamam Bay.
Day 2
Passage (35 miles) to the island of Rhodes.
Due to its geographical position, Rhodes has been a major maritime and commercial center of the Eastern Mediterranean since ancient times. The construction of the city began in 407 BC. In the 14th century the Knights of the John of Jerusalem Order erected powerful fortifications and built the Palace of the Grand Master. In 1523 the island was conquered by Ottoman Turks. During the Ottoman occupation numerous mosques and baths appeared in the Old Town. In 1912 Rhodes came under the control of Italy. New rulers decorated it with magnificent buildings, wide roads and squares. Only in 1948 the island officially became part of Greece. Today the medieval city of Rhodes is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Day 3
Walk through the Old Town and see the Palace of the Grand Master. And then go to the Symi island (20 miles), Panormitis bay.
One hundred years ago Symi was one of the most prosperous islands of Greece. This is evident from its exquisite architecture. Southern style villas rise above the blue sea - a classic view from the Mediterranean postcards!
Day 4
We sail back to Turkish territory (15 miles) and explore of the bays of the Bozburun Peninsula. Bozburun was also important in ancient times. It is literally strewn with ruins of ancient fortresses. There are fewer tourists here, and you can find completely deserted coves.
Day 5
We continue to sail along the southeastern coast of the Bozburun Peninsula. Overnight in the bay Ciftlik (15 miles).
Day 6
Passage (35 miles) to Hamam Bay, Cleopatra Baths cove. It is said that Queen Cleopatra herself came here to bathe. At least twice, including the one time during her honeymoon with the love of her life - Mark Antony... This, of course, is a legend. But the transparency of the waters, peace and solitude of the cove provide plenty of inspiration for the legend’s existence. There are ruins of an ancient hamam (baths) and monastery. The coast is covered with pine forest, emitting a magical Mediterranean scent into the air. If time allows, we can walk to an ancient city of Lida (what’s left of it).
At nightfall we will celebrate Halloween! How many sweets would it take to ward off Cleopatra's ghost? What do you think...
Day 7
Passage (20 miles) to Fethiye. The sea part of the journey is over. But we still have to thoroughly explore the town and have a delicious dinner! You can spend the night either on th yacht or in one of the hotels.
Day 8
Transfer to Dalaman airport and departure home *.
* You can spend another day or two in Marmaris, or make a stop in Istanbul: see the famous Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, go on a short trip along the Bosphorus or just walk the streets, visit cafes and shops .
